Creative Writing
The Creative Writing major is a 48 hour degree that allows students to focus on a wide range of writing styles and genres. 

Literature
The English Major with a focus on literature is a 48 hour degree that covers literature from a range of sources.  This major is intended to prepare students for graduate study in English.

English Studies
This general major within the English department requires 45 hours and is designed to introduce students to all areas studied in English: Literature, Rhetoric, Writing, Linguistics, and Creative Writing.  This broad program is excellent for students interested in the liberal arts.

Rhetoric and Writing
The Rhetoric and Writing major is a 45 hour degree program in the English Department.  The program focuses on written forms of discourse, both student created and others' writing, to understand how and why discourse is created and effective in specific circumstances.

Journalism- Magazine Option
The journalism major with the magazine option is a 42 hour major with a "pre-journalism" requirement (totaling 57 hours).  The focus in this major is communication in magazine forums.  Admission to this major focus area is based on an application submitted to the journalism department.

Journalism- News-Editorial Option
The journalism major with the news-editorial option is a 42 hour major.  In order to be admitted, students must complete a pre-journalism sequence of courses and submit an application to the department.  This major focus area looks at communicating in the newspaper format.

Philosophy
The philosophy major is a 33 hour degree that focuses on critical thinking about questions concerning the practices, customs, beliefs, and laws of a society.
